Jo Holdaway

Growing up in England’s lovely West Country, Jo spent most of her childhood either up a tree, on a bicycle or in her wellies. When it got dark she’d go home and draw with crayons.

After graduating from Falmouth College of Art with a degree in Graphic Communication, she spent several years working as a designer in London before returning to her native Somerset to teach art and photography. It was here she found inspiration and began creating digital illustrations of all the fascinating people, places, objects and life surrounding her. Jo’s since given up her crayons for a digital camera and her trusty Mac… but is still happy to pull on her wellies and go play outside.

About Jo by Jo…

I love to make visual captions for life’s interesting sentences! Using strong colour, curious angles and playful perspective, my illustrations are full of vitality and vivid colour, two elements that are very important in my own life. Always honest to the people, objects or environments in my compositions, I still like to blur the lines between fact and fiction to create a piece with a humorous twist. Because light, shape, colour and shadow are the basic elements that make up our world, I concentrate on bringing these out and maximising their emotional impact. Whether for editorial, advertising, commercial design, publishing or simply hanging on a wall somewhere, the aim remains the same… stir up a smile and put colour back into our world.
